Digital Smile Design

in Bryanston, Johannesburg

Our Digital Smile Design service is the modern solution to improve your smile with a personalised treatment plan that utilises the latest dental technology. You get to be involved with creating your ideal smile and see the potential end result before the treatment is even started. It's like an artist being able to draw a gorgeous smile that then comes to life!

What is Digital Smile Design?

Digital Smile Design is an innovative technology that allows our dental professionals to create a tailor-made smile based on your unique dental anatomy, facial features, and what you want from the dental treatment, whether it's getting veneers, crowns, or a gum reduction.

This technology uses high-resolution photography, intraoral scanning, simulation software, and occasionally CBCT 3D radiography modelling to create a visual representation of what your smile will look like after treatment, including the size, shape, and colour of your new teeth.

The benefits of Digital Smile Design

Digital Smile Design is a painless and non-invasive process, providing a clear and precise treatment plan, increased patient involvement and understanding, and a more predictable outcome — fantastic results with no surprises.

By using a variety of dental en photographic records, we can ensure that you receive a personalised treatment plan that addresses your unique dental needs, and you get to see more of how it all works, minimising any anxiety about the dental work we'll do.

We care about providing premium, patient-centred service, so it makes us happy to be able to let you in on the dental magic by showing you how it all works with our Digital Smile Design service! It's just one of the ways we're revolutionising the dental industry.

How does Digital Smile Design work?

The process starts with a consultation with one of our highly-trained dental professionals, who'll discuss your goals and concerns regarding your smile, whether you're just getting a crown or a whole new smile.

We'll then take high-resolution photographs, X-rays, and digital impressions of your teeth and facial structure. We use innovative software to help us generate a 2D proposal of what your potential end result could look like. This simulation helps us determine the lengths, shapes, positions, and desired colour of your teeth and provides us with invaluable information to aid us with the treatment planning of your case.

We can generate several of these 2D proposals to present to you for your perusal. Think of architects or graphic designers generating a 2D model of what the layout of your home could look like.

These images, in combination with the 3D records we obtained, are then used to create a 3D model of the desired design, which is then 3D printed. After that, we can do a 'smile test-drive'.

What is a smile test drive?

When you buy a car, you usually get to take it out for a spin before making your final decision. Why should this be any different when considering a smile makeover?

This procedure allows us to showcase your new smile as proposed in the 3D design by taking a high-accuracy mould of the 3D printed design. Thereafter, we transfer the proposed design directly into your mouth with a temporary, tooth-coloured resin allowing our vision for your smile to come to life!

What is 3D CBCT radiography?

Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a type of radiography used when regular dental X-rays can't show what we need to see. This technology can show three-dimensional images of your teeth, soft tissue, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. With this kind of CT scan, the X-ray dose absorbed by the patient is also lower than conventional CT scans because we can select the exact areas we want to view.
